How to Build a Freedom-Based Business & Achieve Success
What Most People Think Freedom Is in Business
Most people think freedom in business means hitting $10k+ months, having an open calendar, or working from anywhere. They picture being on a flight to a tropical location, running a location-independent business, and sipping piña coladas on a beach in Mexico.
"I'll have freedom when I hit a $10k month or reach 6 figures."
"I'll have freedom when I move from 1:1 clients to passive income."
"I'll have freedom when I can make sales while lying on a beach in Italy."
But here’s the truth—freedom isn’t something you get when you hit a certain milestone. A freedom-based business starts now, whether you’re making $0, $100,000, or $1 million. It’s all about your freedom blueprint, which is made up of the rules, beliefs, and definitions you have around running a business, growing online, how you market and sell, and what success really means.
Signs You’re Too Focused on External Freedom
When you place freedom or success as something tied to a future achievement, you might fall into one of two patterns:
Fight: You hustle hard, grind, work long hours, and force yourself into “getting it done.” This leads to burnout, anxiety, and feeling overwhelmed.
Freeze: You overthink, fall into analysis paralysis, or perfectionism. You question every decision and rely too much on outside resources to guide you.
Do you identify more with the fight or freeze response? Maybe a mix of both? Either way, you’ve become your own pressure cooker. I’ve been there too.
What Happens When You Don’t Have Internal Freedom
Without internal freedom, even if you achieve external freedom, something will still feel off:
You may have a full bank account, but you’ll feel like something’s missing.
You might sabotage opportunities or feel unworthy of success.
You’ll keep chasing the next goal, never fully enjoying the present.
You might feel guilty or unable to truly enjoy your time with your kids, partner or family.
The Freedom Blueprint: Practical Steps to Create Freedom in Your Business
If you want to build a freedom-based business and experience success on your own terms, it starts with your freedom blueprint—the beliefs and rules you’re living by.
Here are some practical steps to get started:
Audit: What are you currently doing in your chase for freedom and success? What does your day-to-day look like?
Identify Limiting Beliefs: What rules, beliefs, or definitions of success & failure are holding you back? What do you need to let go of in regards to growing a business, showing up online, and being seen? Do you have any rules around growing your business such as “I have to post at least 4 days a week”? Do you have any beliefs such as “Hard work pays off.”?
Define Freedom as a Feeling: What does freedom feel like for you? Is it peace, ease, or flexibility?
Create New Beliefs: What new rules, beliefs, and definitions will support your version of freedom? What definition of success makes it easy to achieve and makes failure difficult?
Redefine Success: What does success look like when aligned with your definition of freedom? What changes in your daily operations when you adopt these new rules?
Why Chasing External Freedom Won’t Bring You True Success
When you’re constantly chasing external freedom—hustling for more money, more time, or a bigger lifestyle—you end up feeling unfulfilled. Even if you hit a financial target, the goalpost will always move.
Think about it: When you’re happier and feeling fulfilled, everything in business becomes easier. You think more clearly, communicate better, and naturally attract more opportunities. On the other hand, when you’re stressed, anxious, or burnt out, it negatively affects your relationships, decisions, and overall business performance.
My Personal Experience with Building a Freedom-Based Business
Just so you know where I’m coming from, I’ve spent the last five years traveling to 37+ countries while running my business and living out of a suitcase. I’ve built a business that generates sales on autopilot every day, and I’ve experienced all the external freedom one could imagine.
But what I’ve learned is that true freedom doesn’t come from external achievements. It’s the internal freedom—freedom from limiting beliefs and rules—that matters most. The quicker you focus on your internal freedom, the quicker you’ll experience both internal and external freedom in your business.
The Key to Creating a Freedom-Based Business Starts Now
You might have been taught that success and freedom are measured by how much money you have in the bank, but that’s not the full picture. When you prioritize internal freedom, you’ll naturally start to experience and appreciate external freedom, too.
